Meet Mr. Chase –4th Grade Teacher

My name is Mr. Chase…I am the 4th grade teacher at Mark Twain Elementary School.  This is my 35th year of teaching.  I have taught 6th grade for 10 years, 4th grade now for 25 years, and in addition mathematics for adults in the evenings for 7 years at Fremont Adult School in the SCUSD.  I am a product of Sacramento City schools, having been a student at Bancroft Elementary for kindergarten thru 6th grade, attended Kit Carson Middle School, and finally Sacramento High school graduating in 1983.  For college I attended San Diego State University studying psychology, graduated Sacramento State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology in 1988. For my graduate studies I attended National University for my California Multipole Subject teaching credential, graduating with a Master’s of Science Education in Instructional Leadership with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction in 1998.  I began fulltime teaching on October 18th, 1989 at Peter Burnett Elementary in the SCUSD teaching 6th grade.  Teaching is more than a job to me, it’s my purpose in life, love my career and would gladly begin it all over again.  I love books, have approximately 25 – 30 class sets of book.  I try to infuse art into every subject to build a deeper understanding of concepts.  All of my 4th graders learn to play chess to build critical thinking skills. I have two adult children, a daughter age 35 and a son age 26.  I grew up in Sacramento having been a resident of this great city since 1967.  On a personal note, love adventure, having once sky dived at 4,000 feet, SCUBA certified, downhill skied every ski resort in the Sierras.  Love athletics too, played 9 years of baseball, a running back on my high school football team, an avid daily runner when I was younger.  I have lived in East Sacramento since 1994.  Love animals, have two dogs and two cats.
